Effie Awards is the most prestigious and relevant competition in the marketing and communications industry of the region; it is the event that spotlights great ideas with great results. This year Comunicación Corporativa Ketchum –CCK- earned a new award with the project Todos a Bordo por la Isla del Coco (All aboard for Cocos Island)

The case:

Cocos Island is one of the most important natural treasures of Costa Rica, and World Heritage, yet it is threatened by illegal fishing in its surroundings and the fight against drug trafficking.

Park ranges work with great effort, nevertheless their ships are old, damaged and do not have the basic requirements to protect the Island, which is 36 hours of navigation.

Two environmental associations, Costa Rica por Siempre and Los Amigos de la Isla del Coco, proposed the goal of raising US$200 thousand to acquire a boat that met the necessary specifications to protect the Island.

With such a high goal and a distant place, we need to unite organizations, companies and Costa Ricans; we need them Todos a Bordo (All aboard).

The campaign, based on influencers, aimed to create awareness. Some of the activations included a giant paper boat in La Sabana Lake and a 3D painting of the Island in one of the most frequented boulevards of the country.

In less than 3 months, we generate US$1 million in media coverage, more than 10 companies join the cause and thousands of Costa Ricans donate to the campaign through text messages. The most important result, we surpass the US$200 thousand goal to buy the new ship.

With this new award, CCK remains the most awarded public relations agency on Central America.
